Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. The island is at present split into two parts, the Southern part being Greek and the Northern part which is Turkish. It also has the last divided Capital (Nicosia) in the world, but plans are under way to change this!

There are many scenic places to visit in Cyprus and below are a list of some of them:

NICOSIA / LEFKOSIA

This is the capital of Cyprus and is situated roughly in the centre of the island. It is know to get very hot and humid in the height of summer, so be beware (drink plenty of fluids!). It is excellent for shopping. Visitors to Nicosia can take a walk along the Green Line which is the border between the two halves of the island. Nicosia “Old Town” is very traditional and charming and many trinkets and souveniers can be bought here.

LARNACA / LARNAKA

Larnaca is the largest gateway into Cyprus. Being the town which has Cyprus’ second port and also an international airport.  It also has a large marina which attracts many sailing visitors each year.

There are several sites to see here and are including but not limited to the following:

ST LAZARUS’ CHURCH - situated in the heart of Larnaca

THE ANCIENT KITION - In the northwest of Larnaca, (admission 0.50)

DISTRICT MUSEUM - is just a short walk within the town centre (near the post office) (admission 0.50)

MEDIEVAL MUSEUM & FORT - situated on Larnaca sea front (admission 0.50)

LEFKARA - Re-known for its hand made lace this village is situated in the west of Larnaca district.

STAVROVOUNI MONASTARY - is situated 25km outside of Larnaca, and is perched on a solitary mountain top. It is accessible to men only, but the views from the mountain top are astounding.

PAPHOS / PAFOS

Paphos is situated on the south west of the island and has the second largest international airport. It hosts quieter areas and also a “bar street”. Many of the sites here are archeological and a must for anyone interested in history.

BATHS OF APHRODITE - 48km north of Paphos

CATACOMBS - Ayia Solomoni / Kato Paphos

MOSAICS OF PAPHOS- situated a few hundred metres from Paphos harbour (admission 2-3 euro)

TOMBS OF THE KINGS - 1 mile NW of Paphos near Coral Bay area (admission 1 euro)

LIMASSOL / LEMESOS

The second largest city in Cyprus. Limassol hosts the largest port on the island. It is a lively and cosmopolitan town with many things to keep you occupied morning, noon and night.It is also the home to two of the largest festivals in Cyprus.

The Carnival held at prior to Easter lasts for 10 days and starts with the King of the Carnival parade. Everyone gets dressed up and many fancy dress parties are held during this time.

The second festival is the WINE festival which is held in September each year. It is held in the municipal gardens and is open 8am - 11pm Here you can taste some of Cyprus’ wines free of charge!

Other festivities include: The Flower Festival (May) and the Festival of the Flood (June)

From Limassol you can travel to the Troodos Mountains, which are spectacular in the summer (nature walks available) and also in the winter when you can Ski!!
